4.  Half-size Poster, JERUSALEM IN THE FIFTEENTH CENTURY
A collectable colour reproduction (approx. 1985) of an artists’ rendition overview of Ancient Jerusalem in 1544.  It is reproduced on a linen finish paper, and the overall measurements are 17” long X 11 ½” high.  It is antique-looking and suitable for framing.
Printed below the drawing is the following narrative:  “The illustration is the work of a German artist, printed in 1544 at Basle.  Most of the names are written in German and only a few in Latin.  The eastern wall is at the bottom with the Gate of Mercy, known to Christendom as the Golden Gate, in Latin – Aurea porta, in German – Gulden port.  To the right is the Lions’ Gate, called in German the Red Gate – rot pori.  Beyond the wall rises the Mosque of Omar marked: Temple of Solomon – Salomos Te(m)pel.  Above, to the right is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre – Des hyligen grabs temple.  Next to it stands the Tower of David, indicated by its Crusader name: The Pisan Castle – Pisaner Schloss.  In the top left-hand corner the name Turris David, in German – Davids Thurm, appears above the alleged royal tomb on Mount Zion – Berg Zion.  A beautiful gate is pictured in the northern wall; although it bears no name it is easily identified as the Damascus Gate.  At the bottom right-hand corner the artist has inscribed his monogram.”  Other than the artist’s monogram (which appears as an intertwined IC), there is no actual name of the artist printed on the piece.
The poster is undated but we have owned it for over 25 years.  It has been stored in a drawer, not displayed.
